Responsible Gambling
At The Nooks, we believe that online gambling should always be an enjoyable form of entertainment, never a source of financial hardship or personal distress. We are committed to promoting responsible gambling practices and providing Canadian players with the resources they need to stay in control.

Warning Signs of Problem Gambling
Problem gambling can develop gradually. If you recognise any of the following behaviours in yourself or someone you know, it may be time to seek help:
- Spending more money or time gambling than you intended
- Chasing losses by continuing to gamble in an attempt to win back money
- Borrowing money or selling possessions to fund gambling
- Neglecting work, family, or personal responsibilities because of gambling
- Feeling restless, irritable, or anxious when trying to reduce or stop gambling
- Lying to family or friends about the extent of your gambling activity
- Using gambling as a way to escape problems or relieve negative emotions
- Needing to gamble with increasing amounts of money to achieve the same level of excitement
- Repeated unsuccessful attempts to control, cut back, or stop gambling
- Jeopardising relationships, education, or career opportunities because of gambling
If you identify with one or more of these signs, we encourage you to contact one of the helplines listed above. Help is confidential, free, and available 24/7.
Self-Exclusion Programs
Self-exclusion is a voluntary program that allows you to ban yourself from online gambling sites or land-based casinos for a set period of time. Most reputable online casinos offer self-exclusion directly through their account settings.
In Canada, several provincial programs are available:
- Ontario: iGaming Ontario's self-exclusion program covers all licensed online gambling operators in the province
- British Columbia: BCLC's GameSense self-exclusion covers all provincial casinos and online gambling
- Alberta: AGLC Voluntary Self-Exclusion Program for all Alberta casinos and gaming sites
- Quebec: Loto-Quebec's self-exclusion program for provincial gaming sites
If you play at offshore online casinos, contact the casino's customer support directly to request self-exclusion. All casinos recommended on The Nooks offer self-exclusion options.
Responsible Play Tips
Set a Budget
Decide how much you can afford to lose before you start playing. Never gamble with money you need for essential expenses like rent, bills, or food.
Set Time Limits
Decide how long you will play before you start. Use the session timer tools available at most online casinos to help you track your playing time.
Never Chase Losses
If you lose money, do not try to win it back by continuing to play. Chasing losses almost always leads to bigger losses. Walk away and return another day.
Avoid Gambling Under the Influence
Alcohol and drugs impair judgement. Never gamble when you are intoxicated, tired, or emotionally distressed. Clear-headed decisions lead to better outcomes.
Use Casino Tools
Most reputable casinos offer deposit limits, loss limits, session reminders, and cooling-off periods. Take advantage of these tools to stay in control.
Keep It Fun
Gambling should be entertainment, not a way to make money. If gambling stops being fun or starts causing stress, it is time to take a break.
Our Commitment
At The Nooks, we take responsible gambling seriously. We only recommend online casinos that provide responsible gambling tools including deposit limits, self-exclusion options, and session time reminders. We include responsible gambling information on every page of our site, and we will never encourage reckless or excessive gambling behaviour.
