Mohsen Wood Craft

In Iran, where I am from, there is a centuries-old culture of creativity and handcrafted arts and decor. I owned my own shop and sold Persian carpets and tablecloths until I met and married my Canadian wife, Allison. In fact, Mohsen Wood Craft is the product of a beautiful love story. In 2007 after surviving cancer, Allison decided she would travel to the gorgeous country of Iran for a fresh start. We met in the local bazaar where I sold Persian carpets. We hit it off and the rest is history! Four years of long distance later, I finally made it to Canada in 2011. When I moved to Canada I needed to retrain. I chose woodworking and cabinetmaking because it allowed me to continue to be creative while earning a living. Mohsen Wood Craft has been in the works ever since. With a focus on local and sustainable craftsmanship, I make tables, cutting boards and other wood products in my home shop using new and reclaimed local hardwoods.
I specialize in live-edge coffee tables with a glass or resin ‘river’, made with new and reclaimed local hardwoods in my garage in Guelph. My most recent products are charcuterie boards and coasters decorated with brilliant ocean-blue resin. I also create serving boards and coat racks engraved with a lightning pattern using high voltage electricity.
Though Canada may be rich with trees, I believe that wood needs to be harvested and used in a sustainable way. For this reason, I source much of my wood from shop off-cuts which are laminated into planks that can be made into new products. My live-edge boards are sourced from small, local sawmills that use selective harvesting techniques. I love taking discarded wood and turning it into products that are beautiful and functional.
