Silk & Scarlet

I’m Heather Beggs, a mama of three beautiful boys, Jacob (3), Paxton (2) and Carter (7 months) and a wife to my husband, Jeremy (whom I affectionately call Beggs).
I’m the owner and creator behind Silk & Scarlet. We specialize in handcrafted accessories for all ages! We’re most well known for our bow beanies, twisted and top knot headwraps, removable knot scrunchies, adult hard headbands, and clips.
Two years ago, in January of 2018, I started selling a couple of scrunchies and handmade headbands After learning how to sew two months prior. I was looking for a hobby at the time, and little did I know that this would shortly become a full time business! I created one of a kind sewing patterns for our products (after a lot of trial and error) and started getting custom orders almost immediately! I soon realized there was so much interest that I started doing markets. Those were so successful and the demand was so high that I started a website and launched seasonal collections to be able to keep up with the workload. Shortly after that I hired our first seamstress to help with the large volume, who now works with us pretty much full time! We started growing again, so we hired a lovely jewelry maker on the East Coast to start handmaking a new product for us. We soon partnered with another jewelry maker, this time based out of Ontario, to make our handmade clips. Now we are branching into three retail locations in 2020, including The Nooks Oshawa Centre, and we couldn’t be more excited and more grateful for such growth and such support these last two years to get us here!
I always say ‘us’ because it truly takes a village with a small business. My husband helps with the business side of things, my parents and siblings help me set up, tear down and man my booth during shows and markets, my seamstresses and creators behind our products make everything by hand and put in so many hours to create beautiful pieces, my little ones love to help package orders, and so many more who support in lots of other ways. This ‘small business’ has become bigger than I had ever dreamed, and I can’t wait to see where it takes us this year and beyond!
The most important thing to me with this company is staying true to our mission of being 100% handmade in Canada. All of our team makes each piece by hand, in Canada and that is soooo important to me. Another big thing for us is keeping things current. While we have our original items like our bow beanies, scrunchies and headwraps that we have had since the beginning, we have made tweaks to them to keep them trendy, and we have also added new products in the process. I think the reason this business has been so successful thus far has so much to do with the fact that our products aren’t just for aesthetics. They’re practical and functional pieces. With all products, I’m always sure to make sure things are beautiful, but also serve a need.
Have any questions about our shop? Always feel free to reach out! Another huge thing I love about this business is, of course, meeting so many new + wonderful people!
